The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), led by Minister Lee Sang-min, announced on September 2 that it has selected seven outstanding research and development achievements in the field of disaster and safety management as winners of the 2024 Korea Disaster and Safety R&D Awards.

The Korea Disaster and Safety R&D Awards have been presented since 2019 to enhance researchers’ pride and to promote the development of advanced disaster safety technologies.

The award-winning projects were chosen through two rounds of evaluation. The official award ceremony will take place on September 10 at the opening event of the 2024 Korea Safety Industry Expo, held at BEXCO in Busan.

Among the selected achievements receiving the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award (six projects, prize money of KRW 1 million) is the following:

“Demonstration and Commercialization of TV White Space Relay Base Stations” (Ho-sang Yoo, Innonet Co., Ltd.).
This project enables communication services using TV White Space frequency bands in situations where underground communication networks are paralyzed due to unexpected disasters. Through this technology, rapid rescue and emergency response operations for firefighters in underground spaces are expected to be significantly improved.
